The Challenge:
During the height of the Coronavirus pandemic, researchers faced a unique challenge – understanding how often people were thinking about the virus and how it was impacting their mental wellbeing. Traditional methods like surveys or diaries risked disrupting natural thought patterns or relying on memory recall, making it difficult to capture genuine, in-the-moment feelings.
The Solution:
Clickscape® provided a simple yet powerful alternative. Participants were asked to click once every time they thought about Coronavirus, and twice if that thought made them feel anxious. This passive, real-time approach allowed participants to share their emotional responses throughout the day without disruption or bias.
The Impact:
The study revealed that people thought about Coronavirus an average of 11 times a day – nearly once every waking hour – and over half of these thoughts (54%) were linked to anxiety. This level of granularity offered a new window into real-world mental health and demonstrated how Clickscape® can capture fleeting emotions with accuracy, empathy, and minimal intrusion.
